1.       Government Incentives - New Incentives to Support Manufacturing, Green Energy and Critical Minerals

In recent years, both federal and state governments have been active in offering a range of incentives to support companies in undertaking new and expanded projects across a range of manufacturing, green energy and critical minerals areas. At the federal level, the list of incentive continues to grow as part of the “Future Made in Australia” initiative, with commitment to $22.7 billion support program for industry. With the growing list of government incentives, companies often get confused as to what incentives may be available to them. As part of this session, we will facilitate the audience’s understanding on the range of new and extended programs available under the “Future Made in Australia” initiative, as well as look at the new proposed production tax incentives for hydrogen and critical minerals.

2.       Engaging with the Australian Taxation Office

Since the global financial crisis, the Australian federal government has been focusing on ensuring taxpayers pay the right amount of tax and its focus to collect a “fair share of tax” from multinational companies operating in Australia has ever increased. Japanese companies are no exception to this.

Over years, more funds have been allocated to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and there have been increasing scrutinies over multinational taxpayers which can be evident from the ATO’s Top 1000 program. There are more compliance burdens on taxpayers.

In this session, a former ATO director will discuss the recent trends in ATO engagements and current focus areas.  We will provide insights into how to navigate engaging with the ATO, including as part of the Combined Assurance Review Program.  We will address the current taxation landscape and provide practical guidance on how to prepare for any such engagement.
